IF you are a parent of children that ride a school bus, you
may want to read this article very closely...it is a TRUE
actual account.
Approximately three years ago I purchased my home
that is located in a rural community within the county
of CARROLL in the community known as Atwood,
Tennessee.
I have one neighbor that resides on the same lane.
We share one road that gives access to and from
our property. This road is COUNTY road, to be
maintained by the Carroll Country Road Depart.
Approximately 100 yards from my home is private
property road shared by myself and neighbor...then
after that approx 100 yards, runs into the county
road.
School bus's are very heavy weighing several
tons. And when loaded with children are even
far more heavier.
The country refuses to pave or do any repairs whatsoever
to the 100 yards of road that is not county road.
Twice a day, five times a week, nine months out of the
year, the school bus drives down that 100 yards or so,
of non-county road and is literally destroying the road.
I don't have school age children...the neighbor has one.
The neighbor has refused to have the child walk an
extra 50 yards to catch the school bus...so the bus
continues to destroy the part of the road that is not
county. The neighbors do not repair the road either,
so it is an ongoing to stunt of destruction to what is
actually privately owned property.
Last year, I disallowed the school bus to turn around
in my blacktop driveway...because it was destroying it
too. The neighbors stated they would place a turn
around near their own driveway for the school bus but
still refuse to have the child walk the measly 50 yards
to catch the bus. They stated, it would be the last
year the bus would be coming because their older
child would be driving the younger to and from schoo.
That did not happen. The school bus continues this
year as well, to destroy the road, not fix the road and
turn around at the neighbors created turn around drive.
Now I would like to inform you of the turn around drive
and I hope you will take strong what I am saying and
look into EXACTLY where the school bus is driving
your children.
Being that my property had been surveyed in 1999
and all was briefily explained to me when I bought
the property, I saw no need to resurvey at time of
purchase.
The neighbors turn around spot for the school bus,
is primarily all on my property. I know because I
did just last week, fork out the $750 for my property
to be surveyed.
The turn around drive the neighbors created si nothing
short of DANGEROUS. And most times, twice a day,
when I see that school bus back into the turn around,
I hold my breath. This is because the turn around is
very narrow and.....has a pretty good drop off. Just a
few inches over too far and that school bus would drop
off like a dead fly into that ditch!
Obviously, the neighbors are all buddies with the
school board and most everyone around these parts
because they have lived here all their lives.
For over 2 years, I have had to deal with this monstrosity
of ignorance.
Now that I know exactly where my property line is, and
that the neigbors illegal placed a turn around on my
property, I am having built some columns to block the
school bus. I placed a no trespassing sign up, stated
construction would begin Friday, contacted the school
board and made them aware that they would no longer
after Friday be able to turn around in the turn around.
For over two years I have called the road department,
talked with this area's road department mand Nolan
Robinson, talked with the school board, talked with
the environmental department, talked with the MAYOR
of Carroll County. No one cares. They don't care
because they don't want to be bothered with what
appears to them a petty thing. They don't care because
they are buddies with the neighbors and apparently
feel that child should have front door curb service.
Yesterday, having my blocks and concrete mix
lying at the end of the turn around...to begin construction
as I stated above, the school bus drove into the turn
around anyway, and destroyed some of the concrete
blocks and some of the bags of ready mix concrete.
The school bus, whether intentional or not, the driver
very well knew he/she had hit my materials. Neither
did the drive stop, apologize, replace the materials.
I called the school board and informed them that the
driver had backed over the materials and they refused
to replace them. I want you to know that for two years
I have talked and dealt with some of the rudiest people
I have ever talked with in my life.
Since the school was so rude and refused to replace
the materials I called the Carroll County Sheriff. I was
informed a deputy was on his way to my home to take
the report. I thanked them and waited...waited...waited
for almost two hours....then the phone rang. It was
the secretary again from the sheriff depart telling me
that since the incident took place on private property
they could not and would not come out here to my
place to take a report on the incident.
Have you ever heard of such? Police refusing to
investigate more or less what could be considered a
hit and run? Have you ever heard of a school bus
continuously driving down someones own private
road and drive without the owners permissions, continuously destroying their property and NOT the school, NOT the cops,
NOT the mayor, NOT the road department, NOT
anyone gives a hoot and no one is consdered
liable?
I will be solving a major problem Friday. Because
my construction begins Friday. And that means the
neighbors are going to have to create another turn
around and the only real place for them to do it is
PAST that 100 privately owned yards. So I think that
I may have resolved this problem and possibly have
even saved children from actual and possible harm...
because if that school bus was to ever, even slightly
mis-judge the turn around, the school bus could
easily go off into the ditch.
So I am of course an old meanie for not allowing
the school bus to continue to destroy my property.
I am a total bitch for not allowing the school bus
to place those children in harms way.
If by some strange happening my construction
does not resolve the problems, I will be forced to
seek my lawyers advice on whom exactly to SUE.
The school? The school board? The county road
department? The entire Carroll county? Perhaps...
ALL.
The POINT of my article is...if you have children
that ride the school bus, I sure hope you know
exactly where that driver is driving!
