1 HOUR
by Valerie Underhill

Imagine you have not gone to the grocery for a month. Imagine
your pantry is bare. Now imagine you have 1 hour in a grocery.
What are you going to do?

Did that sound like a stupid question?

You are going to buy groceries. You are going to go through
the grocery store very quickly because you only have 1 hour.
You are going to grab the veggies you always get, you are
going to push your shopping cart quickly to the bread isle and
grab the usual familiar bread. You're going to zoom down
the cereal isle and grab your favorite cereal. Off you go down
the frozen food section grabbing your favorites and the items
you are so very familiar with...the items you consume.

Finally, you make it to the check out and see the lines
are all full. You search for the shortest line and shove
your heavy cart into checkout position. While you stand
there, you fumble in your wallet to make sure you have
the cash. You might take out your checkbook and begin
writing out a check. Or you might search for your credit
card. All of this will save time so you'll be able to quickly
pay...remember, you only have 1 hour.

Your turn rolls up and you have paid for your groceries and
you are seemingly flying out the door...almost running to
your vehicle. You arrange your groceries as quickly as you
can into your vehicle and now you are behind the steering
wheel.

Whew! You made it! You got all your groceries in 1 hour.

Most people that get online really do not have much time
to spend at their computer. They work 40 or more hours a
week, have children and home chores to attend to. I know
it can be difficult to believe but most people do sleep 6 or
more hours of each 24 hour day. Lets just take a closer
look at how people spend their time in a day (and I am being
very conservative) :

- 6 hours sleep
- 8 hours work
- 1 hour restroom (bath, hair, makeup etc)
- 1 hour preparing and achieving meals
- 1 hour eating
- 1 hour household chores
- 1 hour family time
- 1 hour commuting (driving to work etc)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Total = 20 hours

Wouldn't you agree that is a conservative total? I think it is.
There is a lot of things we may do in our daily life that I have
not accounted for in my total. After all, I have really not even
included conversation time...that means answering the phone,
answering the door. I have not included preparing mail, going
to the post office, shopping for clothing and other items...like
going to the grocery. I have not included hobbies such as
gardening. And I have certainly not included recreation or
vacation time...the closest I got was 1 hour a day family time.

So I think everyone would agree that my 20 hour per day of
daily activities is very conservative and perhaps way under-
estimated in some areas.

How much time does that leave people to get online every
day and work at home from their computer so they can
make money online??? My guess is, not much time at all.

Well then, how much time do people have to really absorb
banner advertising? How much time do they have to read
long ads? How much time do they have to learn marketing?

Do they have at least 1 hour per day to work online?

This article actually reveals many things if you think about it.
One thing I am conveying to you is, banner ads all over your
website, is not going to cut the mustard for you. A second
thing I am conveying to you is to get straight to the point in
your advertising :

- What can YOU do for the reader?
- What can the OPPORTUNITY do for the reader?

Keep in mind this one small phrase whilst you design your
website, whilst you are thinking about placing a gazillion banners
on your site, whilst you are writing those long drawn out ads,
whilst you are .......

...repeat after me ......
